I mean it's the fifth book of BEFORE THE COFFEE GETS COLD book series. The author once again succeeded to make me cry. I'm always surprised how the author is able to portray every kind of relationships in a such a manner that it makes you appreciate the relationships and the situation of the people around you. IM YET TO FIND ANOTHER BOOK OR SERIES THATS GONNA BEAT THIS ONE FOR ME.

The author now needs to do something new

I was very excited for the 5th instalment of the Before The Coffee Gets Cold series, but from the day I started reading it, the excitement just kept going down.

I feel the author really needs to take a break and think of some newer concepts. At present the stories in this book follow the same template from the previous books of 3 stories being of one person going to the past and in 1 story the person goes into the future. This template is not working out anymore.

I love the fact the each story is about kindness. They talk about how we need to be kind and empathetic in interpersonal relationships and the character growth in every story is quite good. That’s the only saving grace for this series in this book. After a point l, the stories just become highly predictable. So much that I won’t get much into it so as to not reveal any spoilers.

But for those who have already been reading this series, please go ahead and pick it up so that you can be up to date with the whole series.

Magical read !

‘Before We Forget Kindness’ is a poignant and introspective novel that explores the complexities of human relationships, love, loss and regret. Set in the enigmatic Funiculi Funicula café where customers can travel back in time, Toshikazu Kawaguchi masterfully weaves four stories that delve into the human condition.

Four distinct narratives explore themes of love, loss and longing:

• Yuki's quest to redo a painful childhood moment
• Megumi's emotional reunion with her deceased husband
• A father's poignant encounter with his estranged daughter
• Tsumugi's heartbreaking reunion with a lost friend

Kawaguchi's writing is elegant and evocative, seamlessly blending magical realism with emotional depth. The characters are richly drawn, their struggles and triumphs resonating deeply. The novel's central premise i.e. the ability to travel back in time, but with strict rules serves as a powerful metaphor for the complexities of human relationships and the fragility of memory.
